The weekend from Minne-snow-ta
Hey all,
Well, last night/this morning/afternoon was a recovery day for yours truly, after staying awake for 31 hours straight (my short work shift on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, followed by my 8 stop/7 HPB/1 BL trip around the middle suburbs of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Thursday morning/afternoon:
-Well, I decided that I was making my shopping run then, instead of today.
Here's some notes of that trip:
--Why is it that I couldn't find ANY of Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files" paperbacks (or even hardbacks) at ANY of the HPB's (I did find the 9th book, "White Night" at the VERY last stop, after I bought a new copy at Borders at Rosedale, when I got the new "Small Favors" book, and they were running a B1G1 Half Off sale on all of Butcher's paperbacks)?
--DVDs were pretty blah for the trip. The store in Maplewood had some decent anime DVD prices (compared to their sister stores), as I snagged the first two volumes of "Tide-Line Blue," a series from the creators of fellow apocalyptic sub series, "Blue Submarine No. 6." Other than that, there wasn't a whole heck of a lot to get. The select anime box set sale is over after tomorrow at work, and I'm still debating "Tokko" and "Noein," but all-in-all, I have way too much to catch up on, and I didn't care much for the ep of "Noein" I saw on Sci-Fi (though you can't really beat $30 for 2 full series box sets)
--Finally finished a few book series on this trip. With the exception of the two most-recent novels, I finally finished the early half of John Sandford's "Prey" series. Had to buy the 4th novel, "Silent Prey," at full used HPB price, after nailing MOST of them what I needed at the Rosedale HPB in their clearance paperback section (I was not happy as I got all of 'em but that one). Caved in and finished up the "Dresden Files" series at the Rosedale Mall's Borders. Also, at the last store in Apple Valley, I LUCKED out and got the last "NUMA Files" book by Clive Cussler/Paul Kemprecos. Also bought "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown, since I don't believe I had it (and for a buck, if I do, I do...I don't...yay). Also, finished up the "Gundam SEED Astray R" manga line (4 volumes, got the last 3).
--Also, filled in a few holes from other author's lines and that. Picked up two Robert Crais novels (one in his long Elvis Cole series), a few Dean Ing ones (he seems like he's a very intriguing author), a few EARLY ones in Cussler's Dirk Pitt series, "The Last Templar" by Raymond Khoury (which Frank tells me is a really good novel....looked intriguing when I saw it last year at Dallas/Ft. Worth's airport bookstore), and more, but I'll post those later.
--Since he just retired, I snagged Ric Flair's autobiography, "To Be the Man." Read a good 1/3rd of it already, and boy....there are some great stories, AND you can see why his first wife left him.
--Manga: Miracle...found/got a volume of "Nadesico" I was missing, along with "Geobreeders."
--This "Tomagachi" store in the Rosedale Mall reminds me of a really classier version of those Japanese toy stores that Danielle and I hit in Chicago. This store in Rosedale was REALLY nice, and had a TON of figurines (but a good 1/4 of his stock was held for this weekend's Anime Detour convention here by the Mall of America).
--There wasn't much for Green Arrow stuff this trip at the HPBs. One store had "Straight Shooter," another had the "Emerald Allies," with the new GL Kyle Rainor w/new GA Connor Hawke; and there was one other book, I think it was "Moving Target." Did see an individual GA issue I haven't seen where Ollie won the mayoral election.
--I will however need to find a USPS or UPS office that's close and mail these suckers back in 1 or 2 boxes.
More to come, I gotta go get some caffeine (I'm OUT!),
Matt
