    Things that go....KA-BOOM!
    Hey all,

I'll get to the subject's reference in a minute, but two nights in a row where I'm sent home from Ellisville early, because I have to go right back to Chesterfield to hopefully have a scissor-lift, electrician, etc....to install the two missing power-poles, and unless Murph's there and can tell me where the ordered alarm boards are, temp the alarms with 2 4-port endcap alarm boards. *sigh*

Onto the subject's inference....the other day I trekked out to Wentzville (since they were the closest store that had 'em) to finish out the old-school He-Man collection, as the He-Man Seasons (and everything else related to it from BCI/Navarre, such as She-Ra, Bravestarr, and the terrible New Adv. of He-Man from the early '90s) are $9.99/season set. So, other than that, I caved in and picked up the sequel to one of my favorite games, "Mercenaries."

"Mercenaries 2: World in Flames" is a great follow-up to the original, as Pandemic Studios (Star Wars: Battlefront 1 & 2, Full Spectrum Warrior, Mercenaries) rebuilt the original game's engine from the ground up, and it translates into more buildings to level, more vehicles to play with, and a few more toys to blow stuff up with, along with a nice new swimming/boating mechanic. :) They brought back the main 3 mercs from ExOps, along with their respective voice talent (the game-stealing AGAIN Peter Stormare as Mattias; Phil LaMarr as Chris, and Jennifer Hale as Jennifer). They did replace the voice actress for your guidance in ExOps in Fiona, but she sounds similar.

I've only played the first two levels (rescuing Gen. Cardona, then the doublecross, and me deciding to take Solano's personal villa for my new base). :) Great stuff. So far, it's been fun, though it's still early in the game where seems like the baddies only have one rifle where I have to use that one to keep getting ammo. However, the hijacking BIG vehicles mechanic is interesting, and funny (though I wish w/the tank one, you just pull the grenade pin while it's still clipped to the driver's ammo belt, and just throw him off the tank).

So far, I'm just surprised at the sheer gap in reviews. GameSpot gave the game a 5.0/10; IGN gave it a 7.9/10. I've seen mostly 7.5s to 8.5s, but GameSpot surprised me with the 5. Myself, I'd give the game either a 7.5 or an 8 so far.

    More later,
    Matt
