Project "Support Team" - Week 1 (kinda)
Hey all,
For those who only read this every so often, I'm towards the end of my "work week" of Week 1 of 2 up here in Minne-snow-ta (and yes, that is true, because it dropped a nice 3-6 inches Monday afternoon/evening, and melted away the next day). With 3 other Project Teams in the area, not counting our "overseer team" led by Minneapolis FDM Jeff, the StL team was split up between the 3 teams here.
So, Mike calls us to a meeting in the hotel Saturday night, and divvies us up between the 3 teams. However, due to Peggy's runs/sickness, our original deployment got altered. So, Frank, Charles, and Lawrence took Frank's rental HHR to E... (which on Tuesday, Peggy joined up with them after she got better). Racheal and Beth went to ??? in Mike's rental Pontiac Vibe, while Drake joined me in Peggy's rental Pontiac Vibe to the Maple Grove store.
Off we went....so, the FDM for our Maple Grove team is Hollie, a veteran FDM, with her Denver, Colorado-based team, a great bunch of guys and 2 gals (other than Hollie). Got along great with their team, though their LFT Jeff has a screw loose. However, they were really battling illness. The first night, Steve started puking his guts out, and he got carted by their backup LFT Thomas to the hospital/ER (dehydration). The next night...their Team Lead, Chris, had to take Akil to the ER....uber-bad flu he didn't realize that he had for the past 2 weeks. So, he's out for the rest of the week (and doc's orders for another 1-2 weeks after this too). Talk about dropping like flies.
So, night #1, we had to build onto one video game aisle, and prep it to be moved, temp some Sony gaming stuff, move every single CD waterfall basket in the store/reflow it, and destroy an old aisle to prep for Night 2's Best Buy Mobile building. Lots of work, as we worked 'til around 5:30ish (starting from 6:30pm).
Night 2: Lots of setup for Best Buy Mobile, including contractors getting our BBYM tables built and the answer center built. Meanwhile, we had to rearrange (correctly) where the video game planos went (not the endcaps, that's night 4).
Night 3: Getting the BBY Mobile area merched, with all the mock phones organized/put out (I was the mock phone person, and had to organize, make sure we had 'em all, if not...get a list/send out an email/etc....). All in all, a pretty nice work day.
Night 4: Fine tuning, clean-up, moving video game interactive endcaps (corporate maps these things in the stupidest locations), and that. Got to meet one of the KC area managers, who's heading up this phase of the BBY Mobile rollout, who was very familiar with a lot of the GMs/managers from the StL (including my old GM, Allen).
All-in-all, a great weeek with a great team (though I've heard some horror stories from Frank about having to move everything in their store except for Home Theater and Appliances).
Anywho....more later,
Matt
