AAA TV on Galavision (aired 3/29/08)
Hey all,

I'll post about my return and Friday afternoon/night in the next post, but while I've been waiting for Danielle to call me back today, I watched two NEW episodes (that I've never seen...because they've NEVER been released on DVD in the US) of "Black Lagoon: the Second Barrage." YAY! After that, I watched my DVR of AAA's Lucha Libre from last weekend.

All in all, a solid beginning to the 3-hour show, and capped with a decent main event to determine the semi-finalists for the Rey de Reyes tournament.

1) Los Piratas (Pirata Morgan: captain; El Hijo del Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr, and Barba Rosa) defeated the NEW Barrio Boys (Alan: captain; Ricky, Javi, and Kevin); when Pirata Morgan submitted Alan (or Ricky) with a sleeper slam into the Pirata Stretch.

---VERY good matchup, that I wouldn't mind seeing as an undercard feud. Since they've returned a few weeks ago, the Piratas have looked especially good lately. This is my first time seeing the "new" Barrio Boys, as I've never seen the old Kumbia Kings team (which MOST of the New Barrios are comprised of; since Decnnis is a Guapo and Jesse from the Kumbias is with the Night Queens). Your formula atomicos match with the rudos getting their destroying in with triple/quad-teams, then the technicos come back, and then back-and-forth action. Some great team moves by both groups (though the Piratas were looking REALLY crisp today), and with the New Barrios...they need a bit more time, as they're team-timing was off. Also, to Ricky (the blond "new" Barrio), LOSE the hoodie, you're going to kill yourself in the ring with it on. :)

-RATING: 2.5/5; very solid opener, and let's hope this is the start of a nice undercard feud.

2) Mari Apache (captain) / El Apache / Yuriko / Jerrito Estrada defeated Estrellita (captain) / El Gato Eveready / Pimpinella Escarlota / Octagoncito when Mari destroyed Estrellita with the Mari-noku Driver of DOOM!

---Seriously, El Apache needs a new Apache Army like last year. El Apache has to be the best worker/wrestler soon-to-be-turning 50 out there. After watching this match, I'd LOVE to see an Apache / Gato Eveready feud. Honestly, the match itself wasn't much to write home about, though Gato is seemingly looking to take the best comedy worker title away from Super Porky & La Parka Jr. My first time really getting a good in-ring look at Jerrito, and he looked solid (reminded me of a mini Nicho for a minute there). Anyway, after everyone killed each other with assorted planchas to the floor (Apache finished the 7-10 split with his Apache swanton), Mari obliterated Estrellita with a nasty top rope Japanese dropkick, then caved her face in with a non-jumping shining wizard, and then....Mari-noku driver of DOOM! Post-match, to sell the Mari-noku driver of DOOM!, Estrellita was stretchered out.

RATING: 1.5/5; solid in spots, as Gato's comedy was great, and his interactions (and sells) of Apache was great. Dunno WHY Gato was trying to pick a fight with Mari though.

3) The Psycho Circus (Killer Clown: captain / Pyscho Clown / Zombie Clown) defeated Los Secta del Mesias (Dark Ozz: captain / Dark Cuervo / Dark Espiritu) when the Clowns triple - lawn-dart -slammed Ozz through a table-board.

---The mega-push of the Circus continues, as they got a pretty over win over 3 members of the Atomico Title holders. Espiritu has a really cool new look going, as he shaved his head, painted it all white with some GREAT paint job (he also lost his half-mask too). His look just looked PERFECT and fit the Secta group perfectly! Meanwhile...the Circus worked a bit sloppier than normal this match, as they might have injured Espiritu when Zombie hit a top rope dropkick, then Killer backdrop-driver'ed Espiritu, and Ozz called out the trainers after Espiritu rolled to the floor. Honestly, I really wasn't much impressed w/the Circus this time out, and this is actually the odd match where I WANTED the Secta to win (also to me, Dark Ozz is one of the most underrated guys in AAA). Oddly enough, post-match, I THINK the Hell Brothers CHALLENGED the Circus to see who the most dominating trios in AAA is.

--RATING: 1/5, okay match, as la Secta's triple-teams worked, plus Ozz hit a top rope version of his spinning pescado which looked really awesome.

4) The Foreign Legion (Konnan: captain / El Zorro / Ron "the Truth" Killings) w/Alicia Webb defeated Juventud Guerrera (captain) & los Hell Brothers (Charly Manson & Chessman) when Zorro submitted Charly with an interesting STF variation.

---Honestly, was expecting this match to be a hell of a lot better than what it was, as you have 4 of AAA's top workers, a VERY solid outside worker (before the WWE pulled Ron's remaining AAA appearances), and Mr. "Mail It In Every Match" in Konnan. Suggestion to Konnan, STICK to being a manager/mouthpiece and bookerman....you used to be good..._15_ years ago. Now...you're making your legacy look like crap, stick to the mic and managerial attacks. Thanks to K-Dawg, bringing things down a notch...this match sucked, except for the double teams by an interesting Zorro/Killings pairing.

--RATING: 1/5; very blah match, plus expected a HELL OF A LOT MORE out of these guys.

5) Los Vipers Revolution (Mr. Niebla: captain / Psichosis II / Histeria) defeated Gronda II / Laredo Kid / Octagon when Mr. Niebla oddly submitted Octagon with a really tight small package submission variation.

---Another match to fast-forward through, as Laredo had to carry this match for the technicos. Also, where's Antifaz at? Anyway, after the yawner match, Abismo ran in and attacked the Vipers. Zorro followed, applauding, offering a handshake again...this time...Zorro faked the handshake and caved in Abismo's skull with a kendo stick shot. The rest of the Legion showed up to beat down Abismo & the technicos. Then...Cibernectico returns....stunner'ing, spear'ing, AND chokeslam'ing everyone in reach. YAWN!

RATING: 1/5; Laredo took a beating...again. Gronda reminds me of some of the stiff lugs Vince has around constantly, and...Octagon...needs to retire soon (as the drinking is effecting him).

MAIN EVENT:
6) Rey de Reyes QUARTERFINALS; Escape the Cage match:
-Zumbido, El Elegido, Alan Stone, and Super Porky qualified for the semi-finals by escaping the cage, leaving Intocable, Electro Shock, Dark Escoria, and Kenzo Suzuki in the cage. Interesting spot fest in the interesting cage structure. Funniest spot was Kenzo crotch clawing Alan off the cage structure. Towards the end, after Zumbido/Elegido/Alan already qualified by escaping, Intocable used a ladder that La Secta tossed in to help Escoria to help Porky win the final spot. Alan and Elegido had to climb back up the cage to pull Porky out (as we nearly had a HUGE splat spot when Porky was STRUGGLING to get to the top of the cage. Post-match, the technicos were partying with Porky on his win.
-RATING: 2/5; pretty solid match, that I had to wonder about how to win or how the process worked until the end of the match. Thought it was funny how Intocable made the ladder nice and solid using Electro & Escoria as weight-bases for the ladder, after KO'ing them with a chair. I honestly gave Porky ZERO chance to win this match, especially when he needs HELP when he goes to the 2nd or top rope for any move. Great way of getting him into the semis though.

Decent show, but not as good as the week before.
