A post before work...
Hey all,

Well, didn't get hardly any of my DVR movie backlog done, because I was online and watching movies that were on, other than catching up with "Street Fighter II: The Animated movie" and Monday's eh-edition of WWE RAW. Plus with SF2, just remembering that movie and the amount of good music that Manga tossed into that movie ("Ultra" from KFMDM to "Them Bones" by Alice in Chains)...plus the fact that it (at the time) was one of the FEW GOOD video game-turned-anime movie/series. Back then, every fighting game was turned into an anime, with very poor results (I think "Fatal Fury," the "Virtua Fighter" TV series, and "Tekken" were the others I'd probably put into the good video game adaptation pile from the '90s, along with "Sakura Wars.") Also, with SF2, just seeing how many of the voice actors from this (which was one of the EARLY anime releases) are still in the business with different pseudonyms and that. You can easily recognize Beau Billingsley and David Lucas in this alone.

'Course, after I went to sleep, I believe I tossed two more movies onto my DVR backlog, with Chow Yun-Fat's "Curse of the Golden Flower" and I wanted a DVR copy of the Starz Original's "Anime: Drawing a Revolution" documentary.

Last week, I watched "the Pixar Story," Starz Original documentary, and I honestly didn't realize how much Pixar went through to get where they're at today. John Lasseter is an amazing man, especially after Disney squashed his dreams in the late '70s, after firing him after he directed "The Brave Little Toaster." Pixar IS Ed Catmull, Steve Jobs, and John Lasseter, with help from some of the other directors. If you're a fan of any of Pixar's films, WATCH THIS DOCUMENTARY. The documentary was filmed before Joe Ranft's death last year, which was interesting, as you get a good feel for Ranft and his passion, and it's a sad shame he passed on.

Continued to watch Starz Edge's airing of never-before-seen (released in the US) episodes of "Black Lagoon: the Second Barrage," and man, I'm continuing to clamor for Funimation to pick up the damn license and release these on DVD already. The second season continues to get better and better, especially with character development. The start of what I'm assuming is the final story arc (with Balaika bringing Rock & Revy to Japan with her, with Rock as a translator for a deal with a Japanese Yazuka group). Needless to say, everything goes to crap as Balaika decides to do "anything it takes to get the job done," and Rock gets involved (by accident) with the daughter of the Yazuka family group that hired the Hotel Moscow. Plus you get to see that Revy definitely has a soft side for Rock, she just doesn't SHOW it too well. Also, the dub cast has been SPOT-ON for this series, as after his debut in this, I'm hoping they use Dean Rodman (Dutch) more.

Another movie note, as I've seen the first & third movies recently....man, Paul Verhoeven had something with the first "Robocop" movie, and then, the movies just deteriorated from there. Plus, this movie just goes to show you how GOOD of an actor Kurtwood Smith (Red from "That 70's Show"), as his Clarence Boddicker villain was one of those that you LOVED to despise. Plus other than staring at Laura Prepon, his Red character in "That '70s Show" was one of the reasons to truly enjoy that show. :) One of my favorite quotes, during a dream where Eric & friends thought they were superheroes, and Red was a villain. "Greetings, Super-dumbasses!"

Wow..(watching CSI Miami), I didn't realize that Robert Beltran (Chokotay from "Star Trek: Voyager") was in this episode featuring "Stargate SG-1"/"Farscape" star Ben Browder.

Man, sad day for Cardinals fans as former Cardinal ace Matt Morris announced his retirement from baseball today. I thought after his release from Pittsburgh that he'd consider signing a minor league deal with us to possibly work his way back into a long-relief spot with us.

More after work, possibly,
Matt
